Ilang araw na nga ba ang lumilipas

mula nang buhay mo'y binigyang wakas

Wakas na nagbigay daan sa kalayaan

kalayaan na matagal nang ipinaglalaban.

Gamit ang plumahe'y kinalaban mo ang mga higante

walang takot mong binatikos, mga Damaso, Victorina at Tenyente.

Ano pa nga ba't sa likod ng rehas ikaw ay ipiniit

kalayaan, sadyang sa iyo ay ipinagkait.

Kapirasong papel, sa lampara'y ikinubli

laman ay mga letra, namamaaalam kang nang huli

Adios, Patria Adorada, sa amin ngayo'y nakatatak

linyang kailanma'y 'di mawawaglit sa aming utak.

Mga prayle'y kamatayan mo ang hangad

mula sa piitan, ika'y nilabas, binigkis at pinaglakad

Mga guardia sibil na sa iyo'y nakapaligid

ngiti ang dulot sa mukha ng mga prayleng ganid.

Sa Postigo del Palacio ikaw ay idinaan,

bayang iyong ipinagtanggol, malapit mo nang iwanan

Mga yapak tungo sa kamatayan ay di marapat sabihin,

bagkus, mga yapak tungo sa kalayaan, siyang dapat banggitin.

anumang segundo handa nang pumutok.

Fuego! Salitang sa buhay mo'y tumapos

Pagluha't pagtangis, sa bayan mo'y bumuhos.

Sa Paco, katawan mo'y nilapastangan,

nilibing nang walang kabaong o anumang palatandaan

Maaring tadhana sa iyo'y naging malupit

dulot nito'y rebolusyon, himagsikan ay sumapit.

Rizal's Execution Site

Rizal's execution

Seen in this old picture is the event that changed the history of the Filipino people. Located at Bagumbayan (Rizal Park at present day), this scene in the picture is now a site filled with giant bronze statues depicting the exact moment Rizal was shot.

I have taken the following photos when I visited the place this afternoon.

At the entrance, there are bronze statues embossing from the wall that depicts the life of Dr. Jose Rizal. Another wall have an engraved copy of his Mi Ultimo Adios, in Spanish, English, and Filipino languages.
 

I was surprised to know that the entrance fee was free of charge when I visited. It's part of tomorrow's celebration of the 113th Philippine Independence Day. Yey.


The setting was this on the 30th of December 1896 early morning:

drums were beating

Rizal was brought to this site from Fort Santiago

the friar reciting the final rites

the firing squad were on position

and also the dog

but when this man shouted Fuego!

the firing squad shot him to death

There's a marker at the very spot Rizal was shot by 7:03 am of December 30, 1896.

Also found at the site are bronze statues of the last hours of Rizal at his prison cell at Fort Santiago.

Rizal placed his "Mi Ultimo Adios" inside the lamp.

This Execution Site or the Light and Sounds Museum (located at Rizal Park, near the Rizal Monument) is open to public daily except Mondays and Tuesdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The regular entrance is only P10.00, and P50.00 during night shows.
