Nagsasa Cove: Camping, Stargazing and Beach Bumming

 Day 1 - January 21, 2012

Our adventure continues as we sailed from the beach of Anawangin to Nagsasa Cove. We chose Nagsasa Cove over the Anawangin Cove because of the the following reasons: 1) Nagsasa Beach has a larger, wider beach perfect for beach bummers, 2) it is less popular than Anawangin but it offers a more stunning mountain backdrop, 3) the number of campers in Nagsasa is significantly lesser than the more popular Anawangin Cove.

Stunned by the great scenic views of rolling hills, high mountains, and awesome cliff formations, the 30 minutes boat ride from Anawangin to Nagsasa turned out to be one of my favorite boat rides ever.

ganda no?
eto pa, maganda din.
andaming bundok, iba't ibang kulay, parang masaya mag mountain hopping sa Zambales
Hello Nagsasa Cove

Welcome to Nagsasa Cove

It was around 4:30 in the afternoon when our feet touched the fine sand of Nagsasa Cove. But before we explored the beauty of Nagsasa, finally, we had our superduper late lunch, a chicken meal we bought earlier from the carideria at San Antonio Market. After that, we started setting up our camp, I tied my hammock on the trees, then Byron and I helped each other to pitch the tents (achievement for me, first time kong mamuno sa pag set up ng tent, haha).

thanks to my friend for letting me experience his hammock

By the time the sun has turned into pitch-dark orange, photographer buddies, Elal and Ian, took out their lenses and started to shoot at the setting sun. I was also astonished by the sunset at Nagsasa Cove so I joined their shooting session.

It's night time, moonless and it was pretty dark, electricity is absent. Only the lights from bonfires, flashlights and dinners being cooked illuminate the cove of Nagsasa. Phone signal in the cove wasn't present as well.

Nagsasa Cove tested our fire making and cooking abilities
Blessings do come always. In addition to our semi-salty porkchops, a neighboring campers did gave us 6 sticks of BBQ and 2 grilled fish. They said it's for the birthday celebrant, wahaha, (behind my mind, I was thinking that these people just got pity on us - kami na kasi yung huling natapos magluto).

The best part of this camping was when I blow out the candles (I mean fire from the lighter) on my mini cake. I really thank my ka-lakwatsas for being so thoughtful. :) I wish I had some pictures of it. Another shocking event is that, for the first time in 4 long years, I drank an alcoholic drink. It was my 20th year anyway so I switched off my alcohol barrier. We were also exchanging stories of horrific past aka ghostly encounters.

ang handa ko sa 20th birthday
Then by the time the bottles were empty (thank goodness I did not get drunk), we lie down on the shore to watch the glittering stars in the sky. We shared a few more stories before we finally called it a day.

Day 2 - January 22, 2012

I was awakened by the cold morning breeze that stroke my body,  it was just 5:45 in the morning. I brought out my camera to shoot the early morning scenes in the cove.

breakfast meal, delata mode
After feeding up ourselves with healthy and hearty delata meal, we finally explored Nagsasa Cove. Photo ops and nature appreciation mode. The lake with the mountain backdrop was the picture-perfect spot in the cove.

When we're done shooting, it's time to go swimming. The water of Nagsasa Beach was just chest-deep even at 100 meters from the shore. By 9:30 am, our boat came to fetch us and bring us to Capones Island. But no one among us wants to get out of the water yet (hehe). We had the boatmen wait for us until we're done washing ourselves, eating our lunch, and breaking the camp. Then we paid P100 each to the caretaker for the camping fee.

At 11:45 am, we bid goodbye to Nagsasa Cove. We sailed to our next destination, the bone-shaped Capones Island.

  2. Ang gaganda ng shots mo. did you made some editing on your photos? Cause if not then the place is really such a wonderful spectacle. Care to share your expense like you did back in Sagada? Para me idea naman. :)

  7. Wow! I like how you captured this cove better than mine, unfortunately. Having said that, I so like that photo of yours that looks like one of my pictures from the place. Only, you took it early morning while mine was taken when dark was approaching.
